Who am I? I’m Angie, a therapist, a psychologist, a co-investigator. I usually help people deepen their self-awareness and insight. Sometimes I challenge people to change themselves. Other times I collaborate with people to create and execute plans to change their environment. What our work will involve depends entirely on your particular situation. I strive to bring my best self to the therapy space. This means that I show up with curiosity and compassion, as well as generally a good dose of humor. I prioritize patient goals, needs and areas of strength, and work from an assumption that my clients have innate wisdom (even if they don’t yet know it) and that they are, or can become, the experts on themselves.
I treat a broad range of presenting issues and specialize in helping women recover from trauma (neglect, abuse, attachment disruptions, abandonment and other types of loss) and its consequences (i.e. depression, anxiety, emotional instability and relationship conflict). As a result of my social location, I am especially attuned to issues pertaining to minoritized status, intersectionality and cultural differences and have extensive professional experience helping Black and People of Color who have had negative, unhelpful or oppressive therapy experiences in the past. My work as a therapist is informed by formal training and by my lived experience within the U.S. American sociopolitical landscape.
My telehealth practice is split between New York and New Mexico. Additionally, I hold permits to treat residents of Florida and Nevada.
Relevant Education and Experience
I graduated from The Graduate Center’s Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program in NY, USA. I began providing therapy services in 2009 and have been in private practice since 2017. Over the course of my training and post-doctoral career I have worked in hospitals, community clinics and student counseling centers. My theoretical orientation is integrative and informed by a variety of clinical models and techniques (including Brainspotting, Somatic & Attachment Focused E.M.D.R., and Psychodynamic therapy), conceptualizing experiences through a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive lens. I enjoy learning and am currently pursuing the Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) certification.
